Reiki authors Bronwen and Frans Stiene respond to controversial Catholic guidelines on Reiki

A few weeks ago, Reiki authors Bronwen and Frans Stiene, founders of the International House of Reiki in Sydney, Australia, promised a lengthy article in response to their students' concerns about the March 25 guidelines from the U.S Conference of Catholic Bishops denouncing Reiki, and this week they delivered with more than 4,000 words on the subject, just before their Australian National Reiki Retreat began. The Stienes ask why the bishops took on the topic of Reiki.

"It is more than interesting that the Church has gone so far as to comment publicly on the system of Reiki," the article states. "This is especially true, when on viewing the Committee website, there appear to have only been 13 publications (not including translations) prepared by the Committee in the last 20 years, and that includes “Guidelines for Evaluating Reiki as an Alternative Therapy” The other 12 publications involve such topics as the Church’s stand on homosexuality, abortion, contraception and the role of the male priest. That the system of Reiki finds itself in the company of such contentious religious issues is astounding."
