Reiki for Alzheimer's patients?

This week's question for our readers is from Reiki Master Teacher Joan Learmann:

I am asking for some help from your readers. I work with Alzheimer's and Dementia residents and need some feed back from any of you out there that are doing the same thing--and if so what is the Reiki doing to help. I can find information on how it works in hospitals but have not been able to find much about using it in nursing homes. I hope you can help me out.

Namaste'
Joan Learmann RMT

Thanks for your question, Joan. I hope readers who have personal experience using Reiki with Alzheimer's and dementia patients will be able to help you.

Meanwhile, the subject of our first Reiki obituary in 2006, Sister Roseanne Kasayka of the former Heather Hill nursing home in Ohio, used Reiki with some of the home's residents. That facility is now part of the Cleveland University Hospitals network

Readers, if you'd like to answer Joan's question, just add a comment to this post on our web site, or email editor@thereikidigest.com.

Mari Hall, Reiki master, has come up with a wonderful Reiki technique for various disorders such as Alzheimers, strokes, MS, Parkinson's , dyslexia, and more. I have used it for MS with good results. Here it is:

This technique helps heal and balance energy patterns on all levels.

1. Have the client lie on their back on a Reiki table.
2. Have them cross their arms with the left wrist crossing over the top of the right wrist.
3. Also have them cross their legs in the opposite way with the right ankle crossing over the top of the left ankle.
4. Draw the mental/emotional symbol on your hands. Then place your hands on both sides of the head with the base of the hands touching at the middle of the crown and the thumbs on the forehead and pointing down toward the feet.
5. Treat this way for 20 minutes.
6. Then have them switch the ankles and the wrists the other way.
7. If more than one person is giving Reiki, then the other person can place their hands on the places where the ankles or wrists are crossed.

You can treat yourself with this technique by crossing your legs the same way as above, and crossing the wrists over the crown chakra with the hands and fingers pointing toward the ears.
