Reiki perspectives: Usui Reiki or not Reiki?

The term "Reiki" is used in various and ambiguous ways. There is much controversy about what the term Reiki really means, and what it should mean in the marketplace. Is it reasonable to assume that a product called "Reiki" can be traced back to the practice of Mikao Usui through the lineage he founded? Do Reiki professionals appreciate how the public struggles trying to get clear information about Reiki, and how that limits the field? Can we have a reasoned, respectful conversation about this?
